Do Faber Castell pens count? I adore my Loom but nobody ever talks about it.

I would say it could count. Not sure if they mentioned it in the Goulet Pencast but if so, it wasn’t recent. And I’ve also never used one!

I don’t think they have. I’ve listened to almost every episode and there hasn’t been a pen spotlight on it yet, probably because they’re no longer made. It’s a metal pen. Very basic design. Pretty hefty, very wet #5 (I think) nib. You’re not really missing out.

So… it’s not Loom but Doom?

That’s a far better name. For a name like Loom I’d expect some filigree, some carbon weaving. But the FC Doom is a solid bang around pen. I treat it the way I treat my (single) Safari. They had a sale (8$ a pen that comes with a converter and a cartridge) and I may have gone overboard. Got the rollerball in gunmetal for every instance I can’t use a good pen and the others I give to people I don’t know what to give.

I’ve a Sheaffer Targa Slim 1019S (“Grapes and Leaves”) that I gave my brother for Christmas in 1988, and which he gave me back in 2013 because he hates me, especially for my good taste and talent for sulking. People know the Targa Slim for the impossibility of finding a converter or old cartridge to refill, and for the need to use those itsy Kaweco converters, but I don’t see much mention of this specific model which is, to my eye, one of the most beautiful (especially coupled with that inlaid nib). It makes me cry, especially when I have to refill that converter every 5 seconds because the nib lays it down wet. I love it, including its very slim size which eventually reminded me to stop looking for OS pens (why I bought that M1000… I’ve eyes bigger than my hands).

I’m glad that your pen has a great home. On the bright side — regarding refilling every other second — you get to play with converters and inks, which is the best part. Very interesting that slim pens caught your eye; for me, one of the best slim pens out there is the Muji aluminum fountain pen, but alas it makes my hand cramp.
