I managed the first 2 weeks of January fine, but for some reason this week it's starting to get harder to resist. Chinese pens seem to be my kryptonite because they're not that expensive. Unless you buy a whole load at a time, that is. Which I tend to do.

Hold strong!

:glances at the collection of PENBBS pens:

I feel that. I recently sold four Jinhaos which I had bought because sparkles but didn’t much care to write with. The fact that there are and will be more pens that commemorate the Year of Dragon doesn’t help. As a dragon myself, I just simply must have them. You’re right; this week has been super hard.

There should be a support group for pen abstinence.

Best of luck to you, but I have found that no buy pledges lead to me buying even more because suddenly there are all the pens I want before I quit buying 😅

More seriously though, my rate of buying has plummeted in the past year or so. There's are some REALLY tempting Benus at present, and I'm still kicking myself for missing out on Goulet's cookie and cream special edition. Now I want their Earl Gray SO MUCH. But it's a lot of money when I already have pens I love dearly...

Well, it’s totally easy when it’s the month after you placed a bunch of preorders. But on the more serious note, I am hoping this lasts, as there are apparently “other bills” and “having to eat” and other adult bs. It definitely helps when you look at the bank account and it’s almost in the double digits. I am hoping I don’t cave on my birthday and order a bunch of stuff. As for Cookies and Cream, I feel you. I still want it. However I jumped on Caramel Latte and I barely use it, so it’s… it can be FOMO. We can live without pens after all.

Not sure why we would want to but apparently it’s true.

Huh. I didn’t actually understand just how ridiculous this resolution was when I first read this post, but now that I know the extent of your addiction it seems like absolute hogwash.

Also: pro tip for serial stationery people out there. Don’t keep it in your cart for a few weeks, put up a photo of it as your phone wallpaper for a month and read lots of reviews about how horrible the pen is. In three months and you still want that outdated lump of plastic and metal? It’s yours, just as long as you can call your sibling and justify this purchase to them. Without sounding like a lunatic. If your sibling is currently not in your time zone, even better! I dare you to be able to convince them and yourself that this is normal behaviour for a bipedal mammal at 0435 in the morning.

Then, after this free therapy session in which you had obscenities hurled at you from a groggy, stroppy voice on the other end, sit back and journal about this pen. Fill a page of A5. Ink colour must be legible and it must be a pen already in your collection that, for all intents and purposes, is identical to the pen you’re trying to justify the purchase of. If you still want that pen, then congratulations! Consider it an early/late birthday gift to yourself.

No, I didn’t go through this for my Pilot 823. What are you talking about?
